ABOUT ME

I'm originally from Nashville, Tennessee, but moved to San Diego, California shortly after WWII. I grew up in La Mesa and went through high school there, then on to college at Claremont McKenna (CMC) in east Los Angeles.

Entering the Army after graduation in 1959, I emerged in late 1963 as a captain in the US Army Ordnance Corps, and began my career in the commercial real estate industry in San Diego office of Coldwell Banker Commercial.

In 1972, I started my own development business and developed condominium properties in San Diego, Dallas Texas, and Stuart Florida.

I founded COMPS InfoSystems in San Diego in December 1981 and led that company through its first 10 years. We published confirmed market data on the sales of retail, office, industrial and apartment properties, soon expanding through the western US. My good friend, Chris Crane, then took COMPS nationwide and in 1999 we became a public company. Meanwhile, I was able to attend Westminster Seminary in California near my home from which I graduated in 1997.

COMPS sold to another database publishing company in 2000 and Amy and I were able to retire and moved to the mountains of North Carolina, a place I had always admired. Since then, I have been writing and teaching and as an elder in my home church in Asheville. We then moved to Hartville, Ohio in 2013 to help Amy's mom and dad.  Although they have since died, we remain in Hartville.

In 2008, I began teaching at the RITE Seminary in Donets'k Ukraine. I usually go twice a year for a two week term. Unfortunately, the war in eastern Ukraine has made it unsafe to hold classes there, but we have found a new venue near Kiev, out of the war zone. Since several of our students have had to leave the Donets'k-Lugans'k region, they will simply board different busses and travel to our new location, where we began in March 2015.

Amy and I have 3 daughters and 6 grandchildren from my former marriage.

About to go on a picnic with Amy at the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, NC.

With a few of our students at the RITE seminary in Donets'k. Four of these men have since completed their 6 year Master's degrees and are serving as pastors and teachers in their country. Fedor, in the striped shirt, finished his masters degree at Westminster Seminary in California, is finalizing his ThM degree at Westminster Seminary in Philadelphia, and is currently teaching at Evangelical Reformed Seminary Ukraine (ERSU) in Kiev.
